Hallström's Revenge

-- Expressen | April 12 2007

America loves his new movie "The Hoax". Suddenly Lasse Hallström is hotter than ever in Hollywood.

These are the best reviews I ever had in the states. It's a success among the critics. Fantastic, he says to Expressen.

Lasse Hallström reveals that he and Richard Gere already are talking about doing a new movie together.

Already at an early stage of the shooting I felt that we would work well together. Richard really liked the way I work with improvisations at the last moment and he trusted me in a way that really felt damn good. Add to that the fact that we both like the chaos during the shootings. It has always stimulated me and he felt the same way.

"The Hoax" premiered in 250 cinemas last Friday.

Now it will be released in more cinemas, which is very exciting after all that has been written, says Lasse who during the last days has finished editing a pilot episode of a new TV series called "New Amsterdam", with the Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the leading role as a New York detective.

It will air in mid May and then we'll see if there's a series in the autumn. I will not direct it, but rather be in the background as a producer.

What's the next film project for you?

I don't know. Lena and I are going to the West Indies in June to adopt Janne Waldekrantz' play "Love Bombing" for the screen. It was originally set up at the Royal Dramatic Theatre two or three years ago.

And in the autumn?

There's a couple of projects in the balance.

No Swedish film on the horizon?

Well, I still hope to film Per Olov Enquist's novel "The Royal Physician's Visit" where we will do some of the scenes in Copenhagen. But the script writing is still in progress so I guess we have to wait a couple of years until the actual filming starts.
